Originally featured in Lung’s picture book series The Monsters, Labubu is depicted as a mischievous yet kind-hearted creature with distinctive features: large, expressive eyes, pointed ears, and a signature grin showcasing nine sharp teeth. Despite her impish appearance, Labubu is known for her playful and benevolent nature.

In 2019, Labubu gained widespread popularity through a collaboration with Chinese toy company Pop Mart, which introduced her as part of their blind box collectible series. These blind boxes contain randomly selected figures, adding an element of surprise and excitement for collectors. Labubu’s unique design and the thrill of unboxing have contributed to her status as a sought-after collectible.

Labubu’s popularity soared further after being spotted with celebrities like BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Rihanna, and Dua Lipa, who showcased the character as a fashion accessory.
